چکیده

Measurements are made of the heat transferred between two identical parallel-plate heat exchangers under conditions of oscillating flow over a range of frequencies and amplitudes. The results are analyzed and summarized in terms of heat-exchanger effectiveness, the ratio of the actual heat transfer rate to the maximum possible heat transfer rate. Measured results are compared to the DELTAE model that is often used in the design of conventional thermoacoustic devices, and possible improvements to the model are offered. © 2004 Acoustical Society of America. @DOI: 10.1121/1.1710503#

Numerical Study of Entropy Generation Within Thermoacoustic Heat Exchangers with Plane Fins

Abstract: In this paper a simplified two-dimensional computational model for studying the entropy generation characteristics of thermoacoustic heat exchangers with plane fins is presented. The model integrates the equations of the standard linear thermoacoustic theory into an energy balance-based numerical calculus scheme. Relevant computation results are the spatial distribution of the time-av...

Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Effectiveness on Finned - Tube Thermoacoustic Heat Exchanger

Heat exchangers are some of the most important parts in thermoacoustic devices. In an oscillatory flow condition, the flow and temperature fields around the heat exchangers can be quite complex and it may significantly affect their heat transfer behaviour. As a result, one cannot directly apply the heat transfer correlations for a steady flow to the design of heat exchangers operating in oscill...

Calculated effects of pressure-driven temperature oscillations on heat exchangers in thermoacoustic devices with and without a stack

A Lagrangian computational method is used to explore the performance of heat exchangers in conditions of oscillating flow and oscillating pressure relevant to thermoacoustic devices. Pressure oscillations cause temperature oscillations within the working gas. Depending on phase, these ‘‘pressure-driven temperature oscillations’’ can enhance or degrade heat transfer within the exchangers of a th...

Construction and Performance Characterization of the Looped-Tube Travelling-Wave Thermoacoustic Engine with Ceramic Regenerator

In a travelling wave thermoacoustic device, the regenerator sandwiched between a pair of (hot and cold) heat exchangers constitutes the so-called thermoacoustic core, where the thermoacoustic energy conversion from heat to acoustic power takes place. The temperature gradient along the regenerator caused by the two heat exchangers excites and maintains the acoustic wave in the resonator. The dev...

Thermal Analysis of Shell-and-Tube Thermoacoustic Heat Exchangers

Heat exchangers are of key importance in overall performance and commercialization of thermoacoustic devices. The main goal in designing efficient thermoacoustic heat exchangers (TAHXs) is the achievement of the required heat transfer rate in conjunction with low acoustic energy dissipation. A numerical investigation is performed to examine the effects of geometry on both the viscous and therma...
